Published by: Dreamscape Publishing
Publication date: January 26th 2016
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Filled with magic, thrilling adventure, and sweet romance, Elementals is the first in a new series that fans of Percy Jackson and The Secret Circle will love!

When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly … she’s apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers–and, to her dismay, by Blake–the school’s notorious bad-boy.
Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.
When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers. But the comet has another effect–it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town … and possibly the world.

EXCERPT:

Everyone stared at me, and I looked to the front of the room, where a tall, lanky man in a tweed suit stood next to a blackboard covered with the morning announcements. His gray hair shined under the light, and his wrinkled skin and warm smile reminded me more of a grandfather than a teacher.
He cleared his throat and rolled a piece of chalk in his palm. “You must be Nicole Cassidy,” he said.
“Yeah.” I nodded and looked around at the other students. There were about thirty of them, and there seemed to be an invisible line going down the middle of the room, dividing them in half. The students near the door wore jeans and sweatshirts, but the ones closer to the wall looked like they were dressed for a fashion show instead of school.
“It’s nice to meet you Nicole.” The teacher sounded sincere, like he was meeting a new friend instead of a student. “Welcome to our homeroom. I’m Mr. Faulkner, but please call me Darius.” He turned to the chalkboard, lifted his hand, and waved it from one side to the other. “You probably weren’t expecting everything to look so normal, but we have to be careful. As I’m sure you know, we can’t risk letting anyone else know what goes on in here.”
Then the board shimmered—like sunlight glimmering off the ocean—and the morning announcements changed into different letters right in front of my eyes.

Pawn of the Phoenix by Jamie McLachlan Review

*ARC received for an honest review, thank you!

Braxton 1903,

The serial killer known as the Phoenix continues to roam the streets and a new victim falls prey. For Moira and Detective Keenan Edwards, still on the hunt for the Phoenix, the rules have changed. The killer remains beyond their grasp. Moira is willing to give into ger fierce attraction to Keenan. However, the detective proves to be more reluctant despite a moment of heated passion. Then discovery of a secret Keenan never planned to share creates an unwelcome rift between the two new lovers. Keenan isn't the only one hiding something. Moira makes a startling disclosure about her past, which will not only test the boundaries of love, but might also be the clue that will finally unravel the mystery of the Phoenix.

The second instalment to the 'Memory Collector' series, 'Pawn of the Phoenix' invites readers back into the world of empaths, murders, mysteries and romance. This next book in the series is filled with everything I loved about the first book, including an interesting and dark world, alluring characters riddled with ulterior motives, and the budding hopeless romance between a slave and Detective, and much more. While this alternative universe is dark, gritty and brutal, it is exactly these attributes that pulls in readers and leaves them wanting more more more. The characters are the best part of these books, especially the protagonist Moira, providing some humour in horrible situations, while not making light of the tragedies that befall her. Despite everything that she has been put through, she manages to hope for a better life and find someone to put before herself. No one is as they seem, and it is the most innocuous characters that may pose the greatest threat. Another wonderful and exciting read from Jamie McLachlan that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Night Study by Maria V. Snyder

Ever since being kidnapped from the Illias Jungle as a child, Yelena Zaltana's life has been fraught with peril. But the recent loss of her soulfinding abilities has endangered her more than ever before. As she desperately searches for a way to reclaim her magic, her enemies are closing in, and neither Ixia, nor Sitia, are safe for her anymore. Especially since the growing disocrd between the two countries and a possibility of a war threatens everything Yelena holds dear.

Valek is determined to protect Yelena, but he's quickly running out of options. The Commander suspects that his loyalty is divided, and he's been keeping secrets from Valek...secrets that put him, Yelena and all their friends in terrible danger. As they uncover the various layers of the Commander's mysterious plans, they realise it is far more sinister than they could have ever imagined.

Review

The second instalment in the 'Soulfinders' series, Yelena, Valek, Janco and Ari are back for yet another adventure that will leave readers begging to be a part of Snyder's world of magic, mayhem and intrigue. These characters are ones that will never leave you, their love for each other and their dedication to doing what is right providing readers with a lot of very warm feelings. The world of Sitia and Ixia is interesting and full of powerful enemies that would do anything to see our protagonists suffer, but while there is darkness, the characters always manage to bring laughter and happiness in even the worst of times. This is what I love about this series, no matter the trials and tribulations they face, they always manage to come back to each other. Another beautiful and devastating addition to the world of magicians, assassins and love.
